The book explores the narrative poetics of Dominican writer Marcio Veloz Maggiolo and his connection with the concept of the "marvelous real," as proposed by Alejo Carpentier. Through the analysis of five novels by Veloz Maggiolo (La ficción difusa de Sombra Castañeda, Materia prima, El hombre del acordeón, La mosca soldados and Memoria tremens), a hybrid vision is revealed that intertwines myths, perspectives, discourses, voices and symbols.
The work highlights how Veloz Maggiolo's poetics moves away from sweetness to delve into the sinister and subversive, approaching the Caribbean imaginary from a folkloric, anthropological and mythical perspective. His narrative implies a critical rereading of the cultural, social and historical reality of the Caribbean, exploring the roots of mestizaje, founding myths and the destabilizing effects of the colonial system.
